Headstones in Kelowna and the Okanagan: Vernon, Penticton & West Kelowna

The Okanagan — Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Summerland and Lake Country — has hot, dry summers and cold winters, and has grown fast as families and retirees move to the valley.

Cemetery rules in British Columbia

Cemeteries in British Columbia are regulated under the Cremation, Interment and Funeral Services Act, administered by Consumer Protection BC. Each cemetery publishes its own by-laws on memorial size, materials and installation.

Whatever the cemetery, the practical steps are the same: get its rules on sizes, materials, foundations and installation in writing, ask for the full fee schedule, and submit your design for approval before production. Our cemetery headstone rules guide has a checklist of questions.

Sun and frost

Summer sun and winter freeze-thaw are both hard on stone. Polished granite holds its colour well in strong sun, and deep-cut lettering stays readable. Black granite gets hot in summer but is very durable; grey granite stays cooler. See granite for hot, sunny climates.

Families from elsewhere

Many Okanagan residents moved from the Prairies or the coast. If you'd like a stone that matches a family plot elsewhere, send photos. See ordering for a cemetery in another city.

Veterans

Eligible Canadian veterans may qualify for a grave marker through Veterans Affairs Canada or the Last Post Fund, and families can also choose a private granite monument with service details. See Last Post Fund markers and military inscriptions.

Factory-direct to the Okanagan

Marwaa Memorials manufactures in our own factory and delivers door-to-door across Canada under DAP terms, with freight, customs and duties included — so the price you approve is the price delivered. Plan the design in our Design Studio, request a quote, or call our Canada team via the contact page. Read how DAP delivery works.
