Cemeteries in Lackawanna County
Lackawanna County has municipal, church, Catholic and private cemeteries. Each sets its own rules on memorial size, style, materials and foundations, and many require a dimensioned drawing for approval before the stone is made.
Our cemetery headstone rules guide lists the questions to ask. We size and draw every design to your cemetery's written regulations so it's approved first time.
Climate and durability in Lackawanna County
Cold winters, deep frost
Long freezing winters, snow and many freeze-thaw cycles punish porous stone — older marble and sandstone markers here are often hard to read. Dense, low-absorption granite with a full polish and deep-cut lettering holds up for generations, and foundations must go below the local frost line.
When headstones are installed
Spring-to-autumn setting season
Most cemeteries stop setting monuments once the ground freezes and resume in spring. Custom granite takes several weeks to make and deliver, so a late-autumn or winter order is usually ready for the first installations of the season. See how long to wait after burial.

Who installs the headstone?
Usually the cemetery or a setter it approves, on a concrete foundation poured to the cemetery's specification. We coordinate delivery timing with them.
Can you match an existing family headstone?
Often closely. Send clear daylight photos and measurements of the existing stone; grey granite is the most common match in older sections, and exact matches with decades-old stones aren't always possible.
