Ontario cemetery rules
Ontario cemeteries operate under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002, administered by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario. Every cemetery has by-laws covering memorial sizes, materials, foundations and installation, and must make them available to you. Families may buy a monument from the cemetery or from an independent supplier, and cemeteries collect a regulated care and maintenance contribution on larger markers.
Most cemeteries in Haliburton are town, township, church or association cemeteries, some run by volunteers. Find out who approves monuments, ask for any written rules, confirm who pours foundations — and if nothing is written down, request written approval of your design before production.
